At this moment (2001) the Ministry of Health in Peru has a pilot of Prehospital Service with SAMU 117. It is meant for three distrits in Lima only, and the level of care is about the same that is given by STAE of ESSALUD.
The private organizations have many ambulances to their activities with "Alerta Medica", "Cruz Verde", "Plan Vital", "Cardio Movil", etc. These ambulances are only available in certain parts of Lima.
